As an observation, it may not be scientific, any more than the observation made by the old man on the bench was scientific. But, like the old man’s observation, it contains a wisdom well worth learning.

As Chief Joseph, the great leader of the Nez Perce, said, “The white man has more words to explain how things look to him. But it does not take many words to speak the truth.”

The old man, in his simple quiet way, was speaking the truth. And no scientist or analyst could have said it more eloquently.
